The Birth of Sewing Patterns

September 27, 2011
by

I’ve read some articles online about the history of sewing patterns before, but they always seem to focus on one brand or another. I don’t really care how you started your brand of mass produced sewing patterns unless they’re not mass produced, but independently designed and sold instead. This article about sewing patterns on the Etsy blog is different, focusing instead on what women did before Butterick and Vogue.

Sewing patterns are really fascinating to me, but there are so many out there (and they fit me just fine at this time in my life) I have never felt the need to draft my own. Maybe when I’m older and more settled in my life, you know how things can change by the hour sometimes when your in college.
