Zig-Zag A-Line

Maybe not the best fabric to pattern combination, but I wanted to make this pattern and this fabric was just calling to me. Does that ever happen to you? There really isn’t much else thought that went into this skirt, I really like the pattern and the weight of the fabric for this pattern, but with the kinda crazy print it probably won’t get worn a ton.

I'll definitely stand out walking around campus in this, but it looks good with a neutral top

Pattern: Simplicity 8403 from 1969

Fabric: Zig zag printed cotton poplin

Pattern Description: The lined minicoat with front button closing and collar has long raglan sleeves with button trimmed tabs and patch pockets with button button trimmed flaps. The pants with side zipper and waistband have lined, detachable bib fastened at shoulders with loops and buttons. The skirt with side sipper and waistband has patch pockets and purchased belt.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, I think I need to make the skirt in red like the cover art…

Were the instructions easy to follow? Very easy, although I was apparently missing the zipper instructions but that’s not hard for me to figure out.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I like it’s simplicity and it fits really well, not too tight and it sits just a little below my waist. The pockets are pretty cute too.

Looks like I need to iron out that center fold...

Pattern Sizing: 12, 34 inch bust.

Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made: None really other than chopping off about 6 inches at the hem.

Would you sew it again? Yes, in a solid color so I can get more use out of it.

Would you recommend it to others? Like other vintage patterns, I would recommend the style because coming across this exact same pattern more than likely won’t happen.
